Philoptochos January 2018 News

January 6, 2018

Dear Friends of Philoptochos,

As we all know, January is Vasilopita Month for all Philoptochos Chapters throughout the country.

We especially focus on Saint Basil Academy in Garrison, New York and each year, we have a family Vasilopita Luncheon to support the children of Saint Basil’s.  This fund-raising effort is a National Obligation for each Philoptochos Chapter and provides a major source of funding for the Academy’s operating expenses.

Saint Basil Academy is solely supported through monetary donations.  In addition to educating, feeding and providing shelter they also cover medical, dental and emotional needs of the children.

Also, according to their website they are responsible for ‘the general maintenance of the Academy's 25 buildings and the obligation to protect its natural environment. This is clearly essential not only to ensure the safety for all the residents, staff, and visitors but also to maintain the facility's pristine condition’.

Because our Church is undergoing Capital Improvement projects in the Church proper, our Sunday Liturgies are being held in the Demetrakas Hall for the next several weeks.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to have our much-looked-forward-to Vasilopita Luncheon this year.

In its place, we are having a “Foodless Ticketless Luncheon”. We are asking you to please donate whatever you would have donated to purchase tickets for the Vasilopita Luncheon  in years past for your family.  All the monies raised through this effort, will be sent to the National Philoptochos for our Chapter’s Vasilopita Obligation for the 2018 year.

Please help by sending your check/donation to the church office and make payable to Philoptochos,   attention ‘Vasilopita’.  As always, thank you so very much for your constant support of Philoptochos.

We wish you all a happy and healthy New Year!

With grateful appreciation,

Eleni, Kate and Roula
